Welcome to Cayuga Lake State Park! As you would expect on Memorial Day Weekend the campsite was full, and we were lucky to have booked a corner site.
You know? I think I forgot to mention we brought our best friend, Bella!

The camp site was less than perfect, and that was ok with us. Time together is time well spent, no matter where we are.

Nature always catches our attention, and our cameras. As we walked into the cabin we noticed the tiny birds nest above the door, and couldn’t ignore the chirping of the baby inside. We sat and watched as the mother looked us over, making her way around the surrounding trees, waiting for the perfect time to feed her young.
Melissa grabbed her canon 5D, waited patiently for mom to come back.

We woke up Monday morning, and after a great camping breakfast (eggs and bacon) we headed to the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge about two miles from our camp.

We took the jeep on the wildlife drive through the refuge.

We were instantly greeted by the great blue heron.

We continued on the wildlife drive, and came across a friend of the photographer.

After the wildlife drive we continued to explore the wildlife refuge. Our next sighting was a bird of pray, the osprey. Their nests are hard to miss due to their massive size. There was one baby in this nest.

Even though we were surrounded by wildlife, the little things in nature catch our eye.

We made a quick stop at the information center to get directions to the Bald eagle’s nest. I ran inside and Melissa came across this little guy, the purple martin.

I never knew the great American bald eagle lived wild in New York State, this was a great site to see on Memorial Day.

We headed back to camp, and settled in for a nice relaxing evening with a nice fire to keep warm. Oh and I almost forgot, we were wondering if you can get a photo of a single playing card while they’re being shuffled. Myth busted. (So what? I love that show)

Our adventures of the weekend don’t end here, come back to see where we ended up.
